Thanks to a killer Living Social deal, we enjoyed a day at Golden Gate Fields - watching horse racing with our friends the Elias and Brittany Erickson and Morgan and Katie Cox.
Neither Kylan nor I have been to any horse racing at all so it was a new experience for both of us. The deal included lunch at a table with a great view of the starting gates. The racetrack and the infield were beautifully manicured and the stadium was located right on the edge of the San Francisco Bay - it was a beautiful day and we were ready for the race!
We learned very quickly why Living Social had been able to offer such a great deal. there were probably less than 100 spectators and at least half of us appeared to be with the same deal. Although the crowd was much smaller and less crowded than we had imagined (we were picturing the final race in Seabiscuit), the company was fantastic and we enjoyed the challenge of trying to figure out what was happening. Katie's grandfather raised race horses so she was able to share a few insights, then we read every page of our little guide books thoroughly and even started picking which horse we thought would win. Lili chose the one wearing pink every time, which turned out to be a decent strategy as three of the five races ended with at least one pink-clad horse in the top three!
