One of the gifts Kylan game me for our anniversary was tickets to the Nutcracker performed by the San Francisco Ballet. Lili has been taking ballet classes this year and was just old enough to be included in this very special date with Mom and Dad.
The San Francisco Ballet Company was the first company in the United States to stage the Nutcracker. It is set in the magnificence of San Francisco during the 1920's and was first performed in 1944. From the time of it's debut performance until now, it has continued to be a holiday tradition. I was able to perform in the Ballet West production of the Nutcracker when I was 14 and was very affected by that experience so it was a true joy to introduce my family to this wonderful holiday treat!
We arrived at the War Memorial Opera House early enough to have dinner downstairs in the cafe and to treat ourselves to a box of goodies from the Sweets Shop. Before the performance began we walked through the main lobby and were completely enamored with the splendor of the venue. The lights, life-sized Nutcrackers and a spectacular Christmas tree only added to the magic of the evening.
Lili was completely enthralled during the first act. The fabulous scenery and entertaining performances kept her completely engaged. I was likewise enthralled by the talent of the dancers. Every single performer was phenomenal and that talent combined with the spectacular costuming and special effects left me almost breathless. It was truly a night to remember!
The second act - following the performers from the different countries - started to drag just a little bit and our little Miss Lili became the wiggliest 6-year old you've ever met! She made it through, however, and was so proud of herself for being big enough to come to the Nutcracker with just Mom and Dad.
A huge thank you to Kylan to the perfect Anniversary gift!

oooo, I've always wanted to go to a professional rendition of The Nutcracker. The opera house looks amazing. It's so great that you guys took Lili. I got to go see Phantom of the Opera as a kid when I was really into it. Made my year!
So sweet. Love the Nutcracker! You guys look great all dressed up. What a good man to buy ballet tickets!
Such a fun outing. Lili and Jen's eyes are exactly the same color!
