Monterey Bay Aquarium

The first weekend after school started we decided to take advantage of a weekend with very little homework - so we made the trek down to Monterey for a trip to the famed Monterey Bay Aquarium. We had an amazing day and it was well worth the drive - if not the extremely high cost of admission =)

Our good friends Fawaz and Huda joined us with their son Ahmed, which was delightful. Fawaz and Huda were one of the first families we met at the GSB and we've really enjoyed their friendship over the last year and a half. We talk often of bringing them to visit Utah or finding a way for us to visit them in Saudi Arabia! Either way, we will be sure to stay in touch with this sweet family.
It was a real treat to have little Ahmed with us on this trip. He is a really sweet boy and the three of them played extremely well together. Ahmed doesn't have a lot to say, but he has a fantastic sense of humor and laughs at just about everything the girls said and did - which encouraged them greatly! We could have spent an hour here in this wave simulator. You sit inside a class tunnel and "feel" the wave crash over you. It caught them by surprise every single time and elicited lots of squeals and giggles.
The girls had a blast at the aquarium and really seemed to love everything about it. Lili is terrified of most animals, but that doesn't necessarily translate to marine life. She wasn't crazy about touching anything at the coral reef exhibit, but she was really curious about the various types of fish and of course, the beautiful jelly fish!
Our best attempt at a family picture...low light, a camera phone and wiggly girls after too many hours in a museum...not a recipe for success!
