Oh how we love living in EV! It doesn't have much to do with the cinderblock walls, the cement carpet, or the one tiny bathroom closet...but it absolutely has everything to do with the courtyards! From the amazing weather and giant grassy fields to the guarantee of finding a playmate outside, there's really nothing like it. Our cute neighbor Leila (a friend Serelle's age who could only speak Chinese but still loved to play with the girls) had a giant birthday party for the whole courtyard and it is such a fun way to remember all the friends we love to play with here at EV.
Sherry went all out with the treats, combining traditional American snacks with tradition Chinese treats. There were some really delicious Chinese cookies that Lili and I could not get enough of!
Our neighbors Lei and Sherry both work full time so their parents take turns coming over from China six months at a time to watch Leila. This is Sherry's dad and he is the sweetest man I have ever met, even though he doesn't speak a word of English! He spent the entire party trying to untangle the balloons so the kids could all take one home.
Lili and Serelle with the birthday girl Leila - who couldn't understand us when we asked her to hold still for the picture and smile, so this was the best we could do!
One last photo of the party to remember how much we love our courtyard and all our courtyard friends!
