Kylan and I searched long and hard to find the best place for our little family to live in Provo that would enable us to be comfortable, close to work and to maintain some of the savings priorities that are most important to us. We settled on the Riverwoods and have been so happy here! It is an especially magical place to live in the summer since we're right on the river with immediate access to the Provo River Parkway Trial. This means that our summer was filled with lots of canyon adventures!
Our favorite destination is Bridal Veil Falls. This first time we went while dad was at work, so we drove up to the trailhead then hiked on up to the falls. As you can see, I've got two great little hikers. They each carried their own backpack with snacks, water bottles and toys to play with in the water.
We made it without too many troubles, but we learned a few things along the way, like maybe we don't need quite as many toys because the backpacks get pretty heavy!
The next time we made the trip on bikes. Lili graduated from her little princess bike to a real gear bike this summer and she is a champ. From early on she has shown a natural affinity and talent for bike riding - she taught herself how to ride her bike, she rode her little princess bike 7 miles roundtrip to church every week while we lived in CA and she chooses to go off-road every chance she gets!
This was her first trip up the canyon which is probably an 8 mile trip and was off to a great start...until she had her first big crash. She hit a dip in the path and went head first superman style over the handlebars. It scared both Kylan and I to death, but Lili was amazing. Her only battle wounds were some smalls scratches on her hands and hips, which we were grateful for because it could have been so much worse! Thanks to teacher Lissa we let her be sad for a little while then she "picked herself right up", got back on her bike and finished the ride to Bridal Veil Falls. I just love this little girl who is growing up way too fast!
This time we climbed all the way up the rocks to the base of the falls. The girls were amazing hikers and the ice cold spray from the falls was just the refresher we needed on a hot summer day.
Adam joined us with Heron and Azure and our little morning adventure turned into an all day outing - the kids could have spent hours playing in the water at the bottom of the falls arranging and rearranging the rocks into pools and castles.
Rock climbing practice at Canyon Glen park. I'm so happy we don't have a yard to work right now so we can enjoy our Saturdays together! Someday that will be the right thing for our family, but for now we love just locking the door and heading out for an adventure!
