Antelope Island

I'm not sure how I've lived in UT my entire life and never come out to this beautiful island.
This year for Memorial Day we joined Tiffany, Adam, Heron and Azure at Antelope Island for a day full of adventure and discovery. We had only been on the island for about 5 minutes when we came across these guys.

How cool to be 15 feet away from such huge, majestic animals?
For those of you that don't know, I'm a huge history nerd and could not believe the history of this island. What started with 12 bison individually shipped across the Great Salt Lake on a sailboat has grown into a herd of roughly 700 bison. Incredible!


The Fielding Garr Ranch. Originally claimed by the LDS church and used as a sheep ranch, the ranch house and surrounding buildings are now used as a museum. And, we were lucky enough to stumble upon the "Legends Cowboy Poetry and Music Festival"! Kylan and I both grew up with roots in ranching and farming in both Central Utah and Eastern Arizona. Unfortunately both of our families are fazing out of this lifestyle and we're trying to think of ways to keep this western heritage alive for our girls. First step: attending as many random cowboy poetry festivals as possible!

After we finished at the ranch we drove around the island to spend some time at the beach. When we pulled up to the beach we were all shocked by the stark beauty we saw. We lucked out to be there on a cool, breezy day because we weren't bothered by either the smell or the bugs that most people complain about. Due to the excessive amounts of sand and water involved with beach activities, we didn't take a single picture there!
