Bryce Canyon

Another one checked off the bucket list...

On the way down to Lake Powell, we decided to check another activity off our bucket list by taking a detour to Bryce Canyon. Kylan's great-great Grandfather is Ebenezer Bryce, the Scottish immigrant sent by LDS church leaders to settle the Paria Valley. Bryce grazed his cattle in what is now the National Park and is reputed to have called it a "helluva place to lose a cow"!

The girls in front of the Natural Bridge - man was I grateful for those closely-spaced iron bars! The heights made me a little nervous...

Right before we stopped at this bridge we say a grey wolf. In the wild. It was amazing.

The Hoodoos of Bryce.
We learned that the Paiutes native to this area developed a mythology regarding the hoodoos. They believed the hoodoos were Legend People turned into stone by the trickster Coyote. One Paiute noted that the native word for the hoodoos translated into "red painted faces".

As far as I'm concerned, the only disappointment about our visit to Bryce is that it was too short! The scenery was absolutely breathtaking and the early June weather was perfect. Someday we'll come back and camp for a weekend to really enjoy all that Bryce has to offer.

It is funny how you take for granted the magnificent place you live in, until you have to leave. I am so glad you guys have done all these fun things before leaving UT. Now, take that attitude and apply it to CA so you can get the most out of your experience there.
