Midterm Break => day trip to Santa Cruz

After a very grueling round of midterms, the GSB students enjoyed a long and blissful weekend of no homework! No finance due on Friday night, and no CAT paper due first thing Monday morning. What an amazing and unexpected treat.

We jumped on the opportunity to have a weekend together and chose to take a day trip down to Santa Cruz. When discussing our weekend plans with some new friends we learned that they had the same idea - great ideas really do think alike! So we decided to join forces and tour Santa Cruz with Morgan and Katie Cox. A very good idea!

First stop on the tour was the ever famous and curious Mystery Spot.

After the hour long tour we were all even more confused.

We gathered something about the gravitational pull, aliens, and objects that roll uphill.

Seriously.

One of the many "tricks" our guide used to prove that it wasn't just an optical illusion from the leaning cabin, but a real wonder of the universe. 

Still not convinced? Neither were we. But we got a sweet bumper sticker!

Next stop: Mission Santa Cruz

A replica of the very small original mission that was built in 1791 by a group of Franciscans.

Kylan and Morgan were trying to decipher what the Latin (?) above the nave read...any Latin readers out there?

We ended the day with a walk down the Beach Boardwalk.

This picture is so classic: if you look very closely in the yellow chair of the gondola you will see what looks like a person riding on the ride, but what is really a giant doll? For most of us it was easy to dismiss this as some sort of odd type of advertising, but for Serelle it was the most captivating and curious situation. She was very concerned about the girl up on the ride. We walked past this in the very first moments of arriving at the Boardwalk and she literally did not stop asking about the girl in the chair for the three hours that we were there. And when we left, I'm still not sure she was convinced that the poor girl up in the chair was going to be OK! What a sweet and funny girl!

Although Santa Cruz is kind of a quirky little town, we had a really fun day and were especially glad that we could share such a fun day with the Cox's! If we go back it will have to be on a nice sunny day so we can enjoy the beautiful beach!
