This year, our trip took us from Durango to Mancos, to Dolores, to Gateway, to Grand Junction, to Crested Butte, to Gunnison, to Black Canyon of the Gunnison, to Ouray, to Silverton and back to Vallecito Lake. No crashes this year. EVERY mile was spectacular.
This is my dad's creation. People call it by different names, but we call it the Red Bike.
Just your basic rock shop and fossil souvenir store in the middle of nowhere. Good thing they had gas (no premium)...the red bike came in on fumes to Ouray. Pretty sure this was the most gas these guys had sold in ten years.

I'm a little embarrassed how well my "manly" outfit matches. I'll admit the white helmet was a little over the top. Typically, all apparel should be exclusively black with some sort of flaming skull smoking a stick of dynamite or something. My dad's proudest moment was when my little brother got sent home from grade school for wearing a shirt that was "too scary" for the other kids. Whenever my dad picks out Harley shirts for us, he says that his goal is to pick out shirts that would make old ladies cry. I love that guy.

Coming into Silverton from Ouray. This is my favorite part of the ride.

Vanilla Frozen Yogurt Recipe
Heidi notes: First off, remember it is important to use good-quality whole-milk yogurt. The version in David's book is Vanilla Frozen Yogurt. This time around I skipped out on the vanilla, opting for straight, bright white yogurt with the sweetness playing off the tang of the yogurt. I also used slightly less sugar than called for here, more like 2/3 cup - but you can go either way depending on what you like.
3 cups (720g) strained yogurt (see below) or Greek-style yogurt
3/4 cup (150g) sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Mix together the yogurt, sugar, and vanilla (if using). Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved. Refrigerate 1 hour.
Freeze in your ice cream maker according to the manufacturer's instructions.
To make 1 cup (240g) of strained yogurt, line a mesh strainer with a few layers of cheese cloth. then scrape 16 ounces or 2 cups (480g) of plain whole-milk yogurt into the cheesecloth. Gather the ends and fold them over the yogurt, then refrigerate for at least 6 hours. So, for the above recipe start with and strain 6 cups of yogurt.
Makes about 1 quart.

Ahoy Lundeens, It's the Merrills. I went to Durango, Silverton, Ouray just about every summer growing up. I was naive to think it was my little corner of the world that no one else knew about. Strange to see someone else enjoying it. Good to peek in on you guys. As always, everyone looks fabulous.
