Our sweet animal-loving Serelle turned four this year and has been asking for months if she could have a flamingo birthday party. She's been on kind of a flamingo kick, so we searched and searched for ideas but had a hard time finding enough to follow a flamingo theme to base a whole party around. So, we went with her next favorite thing - playing animal rescue. After our trip to the marine mammal center in Marin County and with the help of a few episodes of Diego, Serelle has a newfound passion - rescuing animals in distress. We didn't want to give up entirely on her request for a flamingo party...you'll see where that comes in!
I've decided that Kylan and I are a great team for throwing birthday parties. I handle the theme, invitations/decor (meaning I supervise with lots of help from Kylan), and food - then I let Kylan handle the activities. He's just so much better at entertaining the kids! Here's a shot of my side of the party - cute table with two delicious birthday cakes.

Kylan arrives on the scene with the distressing news that there is an animal in trouble! The kids need to rescue the animal so he distributes the "maps" with instructions for the three stages of the adventure to rescue the troubled animal.
First step is to climb over the fence...
Second step is to swing over the ring of fire...
And the third step is to climb up the watchtower to see if they could spy the troubled animal...
Final step is to rescue the BABY FLAMINGO!!!
Serelle was seriously in heaven with this activity - and so was I! Kylan did an amazing job creating the route and encouraging serious excitement among the kids as they completed each task. The baby flamingo was rescued and became an instant hit with Serelle. She sleeps with it every night.

Giant grassy fields, towering sequoias, and perfect birthday party weather. (a quick shoutout to our good friend Vivek for renting us the bounce house for a steal - it pays to have friends with start-ups in the party industry!)
Seriously - there can be no birthday parties without Dad.

Serelle's face at the start of the animal rescue is priceless. Hurrah for great parents who love their kids and throw fun parties. You are the best!
